The developments came after Pradhan stepped down following monthlong protests in the heart of Delhi, with demonstrations triggering nationwide repercussions.
Led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), the students had demanded Pradhan's resignation as their primary demand. They also sought assurances that no legal action would be taken against the protesters and compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who had died by suicide after the latest paper leak.
While the government accepted the latter two demands, uncertainty remained over whether the Education Minister would resign.
In an open letter addressed to the young protesters, Pradhan said, "Keeping in mind that anti-national forces should not take advantage of the situation that has arisen at Jantar Mantar and across the country, that the unity of the nation remains intact, that the future of even a single student of India does not get entangled in legal complications, and that our children devote their time to studies and focus on building their careers -- I have submitted my resignation to Hon'ble Prime Minister."
The Cockroach Janta Party hailed the resignation as a victory for the protest movement. Its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, said, "This is democracy. He has resigned... Remember, do not mess with cockroach."
The resignation marks a significant development in the ongoing protests over paper leaks, with the government's top leadership continuing consultations as discussions with student representatives move forward.
